Toys for Tots began in 1947 as the brain child of Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks and his wife, Diane. Today, Toys for Tots distributes an average of 18 million toys to 7 million less fortunate children annually.
Harlem Lacrosse is a school-based non-profit organization that changes the life trajectories of youth through daily wrap-around academic support, mentoring, leadership training, college readiness career exploration, admissions counseling and lacrosse instruction.

Investing in the Future: UConn’s Hillside Private Capital
University of Connecticut (UConn) student Nicholas Janis entered the Hillside Ventures Department's office to speak with Department Head Greg Reilly and Adjunct Professor Jack Navarro. "We have a gap in our knowledge," said Janis, who's majoring in Engineering. "We should be learning about private capital." The exchange sparked a series of events: Reilly and Navarro connected with UConn alum Debra Hess, a former Managing Director at Fortress, and Hess introduced them to Fortress Managing Director Todd Ladda, who heads the firm’s global capital formation team. Soon after, work was underway to develop a course for a selective group of UConn students. -
Team Fortress Takes the Leap in Support of the Union Rescue Mission of Los Angeles
Members of “Team Fortress” balanced on the roof’s edge of the Hilton Hotel/Universal City before rappelling 25 stories to the street below. The nerve-wracking descent of Team Fortress was part of the Union Rescue Mission’s “Over the Edge” event, which raised vitally needed funds and awareness to help combat the epidemic of homelessness in Los Angeles. -
